===== From rotht@televar.com: Plastic looking, but cute! ===== From mikko.oksalahti@dosetek.varian.com: I like the lizzards' pose. A bit more blur_samples would have improved the foreground leaves. ===== From gregj56590@aol.com: Very high score for concept! The short poem and the "look" on the lizard's face are great! Lizards are a bit simplistic, though. ===== From d97ta@efd.lth.se: the background is not quite up to standards with the rest of the image. looks like a backdrop placed a few kilometers behind a studio setup. a ground fog would help conceal that. the plastic lizard looks like it just did a belly flop on the rock. nice vegetation, and i like the coloring a lot. the stream is a bit vague, i did not notice it until i read about it. ===== From ewgr@abaddon.globalnet.co.uk: I appreciate the amount of work you put into this and you have some nice effects. But, there's always a but, the lizards look a little plastic, maybe some work on textures needed here. ===== From ulf.schreiber@gmx.net: Is Brutus lifting his hand to greet Leviticus or what. OK, I'm too hard, I like the focal blur effect too much. ===== From buck@cs.byu.edu: I like the vegetation. The lizard on the rock looks too precarious, tho, and kind of toy-like. Perhaps a more varied texture would help? ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Very... natural. Liked the idea, but the one with the elefant would be also great! Nice layering tricks, perfectly legal ans even well rated. I can only find a thing that I've disliked: the lizard or salamander would perhaps looked better with a different color, mainly bcos there is many green thing in the scene. Perhaps a orange-black crackle teture? Anyway, I liked the composition and point of view. The light is also very real, and the running water it's a nice idea, not the typival plain water. Great! ===== From djconnel@flash.net: Glenn: This is an interesting use of layered rendering! The slope of the terrain allows you to pull it off without interactions between the layers. The blur on the super-foreground works well. A few points: * The tree texture on the background perhaps could use some improvement. It doesn't really look forested to me -- it's too uniformly dense. * The lizards appear somewhat plastic * The trunk is a bit too smooth. * The stream, a real challenge to pull off in a static image, doesn't really look like a stream to me. * There is some banding on the leaves which I don't understand. Most of these are texturing issues -- Some more experimentation with normals (finishes) might help a lot. ===== From fisher2@pobox.upenn.edu: Ambient light values are too high. Focal blur is nice but could have used a higher sampling rate but I can see why you used a lower sampling rate given that you were limited to 90 MHz. The lizards (salamanders?) look too much like plastic toys. Perhaps get rid of the phong highlights or tone them down and add a small crackle texture for a scaly effect. ===== From r@199.45.245.103: The focal blur is a good idea, but you need more samples- its too jittery as it is. The lizards look rather plastic
