I like the attention to details, like the uneven floor tiles.
You've only been ray-tracing for 6 months? Keep up the
good work!

Nice first image!

I think that the sky should have been of different colors so that it stood out
more. The way it is now, it blends into the entire picture too much. If you
had used more of a blue/pink/purple sunset type of sky, I think it would have
been more powerful.

Right on.

From tim_cutho@smileyface.com:

It has a really great realistic look to it, which is really added to by the 3d
effect of the floor tiles and the bricks in the wall.

This is very good for a first picture! Good attention to detail with the dirt,
rust and the uneven floor tiles. Add a bit of practice and experience and I
think
you will do very well in future. The bricks are perhaps the worst thing here...
the texture just a bit wrong. They look a little lumpy and plasticky. A more
pitted granite normal and a less shiny finish would help there, I think. But
overall, very impressive.

Artistic - A first serious effort? Wow!!! Impressed! Very realistic! You show
a great deal of promise and skill, looking forward to your next.
Technical - A very realistic looking mattress, especially the imperfections at
the left end and uneven sags. Faucet and taps look functional. I like the
rusty bed frame.
Concept - A good contrast, (just like mine, picture within picture)

From jrcsurvey@aol.com:
The interpretation strickes me as prosaic, yet I can't stop
looking. In part because it seems so well done, in part because
of the blunt juxtaposition.

Nice balance. decent lighting. The problem here is the
absolute cleanliness of this room (the chalk on the floor
is a step in the rght direction)...even the rust looks clean
- no flakes, uniform colour.
The strange thing is that with the orangish(warm) light
and clean room - the cell seems cozy. There is no
graphitti on the walls (not even the hash marks to show
the days spent).
Also if that canvas on the easel has been painted on,
the fellow has an exacting hand..the edges are perfectly
straght.
Technically it is quite good. Next time for the image map
- a) choose a picture tha matches the media used to
create it - on the picture you have a brush (very clean)
and paint tubes, but the image looks very much like a
photo, next time scour the net for an oil painting or paint
one yourself... b) take the image map into Paint Shop Pro
or so other graphic app, set the eraser to 75 or 85%
opaque and erase all along the edges - roughly....
Big thing again is the computer-clean-room dust free
environment in the cell...create individual objects
(weirdly shaped) and apply have transparent "dirt"
textures. Layer them on the floor and walls - exactly how
real dirt and grime get there....

Good concept

From StephenF@whoever.com:
Good concept, and the lighting seems to work well. The
sink looks good, and I like the irregularity of the floor,
but the other objects in the cell seem rather simplistic.
Nice scene overall, though.

From gmccarter@hotmail.com:
Excellent raytracing for your first serious image. The subtle textures and
lighting are especially well-done. The floor is perfect, but the walls look
more like big superellipsoids than real bricks. Good representation of a
prison cell, but I would add a few more personal items (sketches, photos) on
the walls.
Keep up the good work!
