It's very simple: those things think to be the observers, while in reality they are the observed ones. I kept the image simple to make the idea clearer, but not immediate or obvious. Maybe looking at the green guy's camera and at the sign could make the situation clearer. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The furry, uh, animals (?) are made each of two similar blobs structures: the external one is hollow with a special media tipe, the inner one textured with a modified (improved?) version of Rune's FurTexture. The eyes are just a couple of spheres. The sign is made of three isosurfaces, just like the terrain into the vase (wich is a superellipsoid). To write on it I used a projection pattern with some blur. To make the magenta rope I wrote a simple macro: it's made of two sphere sweeps; its texture is a modified version of Rune's FurTexture. The background is just four averaged textures. There is a motion blur effect on the fan. I used also a bit of film exposure simulation. There is some post processing to add some edges. I added the title and the author with the GIMP. Oh, and just a final note: I know I could have used area lights to obtain softer lightening on the rope but I wanted to obtain that effect.
